“The film focuses on Walter Sisulu, an unsung hero of the fight against apartheid and mentor of Nelson Mandela. The directors value his exceptional testimony.“
Bérengère Sabourin, Press Contact, to Docubase
Walter Sisulu was Nelson Mandela’s mentor. Sisulu became well known during the Rivonia trial in 1963 and 1964. Mandela was “accused number one” during the trial and justified why the ANC used violence. Sisulu was “accused number two” and was the first to be cross-examined. Sisulu faced a racist prosecutor and the possibility of the death penalty, but fought back. Drawing on 256 hours of recently released audio archives of the trial and using illustrated animations and spatialized sound to bring it to life, this 360° video allows the viewer to witness Sisulu’s testimony and better understand the violence of apartheid.
