The experience is about transporting you to an extraordinary location that gives you a sense of scale and wonder at the natural world, while being drawn into the world of speleology and what motivates this married couple to keep exploring new caves.
Shehani Fernando, co-director, to Docubase
Buried in the Rock is a room-scale VR experience that brings us into the world of Tim and Pam Fogg, rope access specialists and speleologists (and a married couple), who see the exploration of caves akin to an archaeological dig that reveals geological and climate history. Set in Northern Ireland, this project is a portrait of two passionate individuals and what drives them to discover new cave passages despite the dangers, all-pervasive darkness, and the unknown that may lay ahead. While following Tim and Pam’s descent into the cave, the entire dramatic Tullyard cave system is revealed in stunning miniature detail capturing the otherworldly formations and watery sounds within the cave. Plunged into darkness, experience the bottom of the cave in an accurate 1:1 scale, explore it with your head torch, and hear from Tim and Pam about how important it is to preserve these environments in the age of the Anthropocene. Move freely to find them in different locations, as they muse on the highs and lows of caving and working together to keep each other safe.
