“Normally the media only shows up in these far-flung, dusty corners of the globe when headlines are screaming. But it’s important to know that life goes on in Dadaab every day—real, human life in all its colors.”
Liz Manne, Executive Director, FilmAid
Dadaab, located in Kenya, is the largest refugee camp in the world. Many of Dadaab’s 500,000 residents arrived there after fleeing violence in neighboring Somalia. Produced by the humanitarian organization FilmAid, Dadaab Stories captures everyday life in the camp through media made by professional storytellers and Dadaab residents alike. In addition to short films, the content on Dadaab Stories includes poetry, photographs, music and blogs. Dadaab Stories is powered by the online blogging platform Tumblr, in order to expand the reach of the site and to make it as easy as possible for people to contribute stories.
