“The whole concept about Filosofighters was to teach something serious and complex (philosophy) in a funny way (fighting games).”
Fred Di Giacomo, Author
Inspired by a Monty Python sketch, Fred Di Giacomo and Raoni Maddalena came up with the idea of creating a wrestling game between famous philosophers. By letting the user pick a philosopher to battle with, Filosofighters offers a lesson in the history of thought from antiquity to modern times. Teachings of Plato, Sartre, Beauvoir, Marx, Nietzsche, Rousseau, Machiavelli, Saint Augustine, and Descartes are embedded within their fighting skills — for example, Plato dropping a cave over his enemy — and results in a “news game” that educates the user within gameplay.
The authors created a second iteration of this flash game named Science Combat, this time exploring the work of famous scientists. The final scene includes a fight with God where science battles faith.
