“INTO THE LIGHT brought together an interdisciplinary team of collaborators interested in using technology to play with sound in physical and virtual spaces.”
Corinne Brenner, Associate Producer
Into the Light is an immersive audio installation that coincides with Yo-Yo Ma’s rendition of Bach’s “Unaccompanied Cello Suite No.2 in D Minor”. The experience, created by Jessica Brillhart, was made with Brillhart’s audio platform, Traverse. The app requires Bose AR glasses and is also compatible with iPhones, and should soon be usable with standard headphones and Android devices.
Into the Light made its New York premiere at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival Immersive Arcade. During the experience, participants traversed through multiple floors of Tribeca’s Spring Studios location, wearing Bose headphones and holding iPhones with the Traverse app installed on them (both provided by the experience). The experience at the Festival was unique to its location, as the augmented reality art by Sougwen Chung was woven into the actual Spring Studios space. A small group of participants, accompanied by a guide, began the experience in the Virtual Arcade space, and ended the experience with a view of the Tribeca neighborhood from the Spring Studios rooftop. At each location, participants scanned a marker to start a new musical chapter.
