The City as Text is the name of the project that rescues the memory engraved on the walls of the avenue that was the protagonist of the demonstrations during the Social Outbreak in Chile started in 2019, the Alameda.
Carola Ureta Marín, Author, to Docubase
La Ciudad como Texto (The City as Text) is a multiplatform project that documents street art made during the 2019 Chilean protests in Santiago. It covers a route of 2.4 kilometers with over 130 contiguous photographs. The objective of the project is to record what are usually transient material inscriptions to produce a visual archive for posterity.
The project offers a “virtual walk” through Santiago’s streets on the 36th day of the protests. The path towards Palacio de la Moneda – the Chilean house of government – features a selection of evocative texts (“footnotes”) curated by the author, Carola Ureta Marin. La Ciudad como Texto is also accessible as an open access bilingual digital book for anyone who wishes to experience this visual content in a different media form.
