“There are approximately 31,500 asylum seekers in the UK waiting for a decision about their asylum status. This film allows you to experience what it is like to live in this period of limbo, waiting for a decision that will affect the rest of your life.”
Francesca Panetta, co-director, to Docubase
Limbo is a VR experience that allows users to experience what life is like for asylum seekers who are waiting to hear their residency status in the UK. Limbo is made from interviews with immigration lawyers, barristers, and asylum seekers from 12 countries. Narrated by voices of real asylum seekers, Limbo places viewers in the point of view of those navigating the challenges of arriving to an unfamiliar city in which one has an uncertain future. This VR experience reveals the complex emotions that asylum seekers face, such as fear for loved ones left at home to worries for being unable to work and the isolation caused by the asylum process.
Presented in black and white, Limbo brings attention to the psychological and emotional challenges of this uncertain state of being that over 31,500 asylum seekers in the UK experience. Coupled with articles on the Guardian that bring light to this issue, Limbo is available on Daydream and as a 360 Youtube video.
