“We worked like madmen, day and night, to finish in time for the anniversary [of the fall of the Berlin Wall].”
Angelo Miotto, Creator, in RFI
The Iron Curtain Diaries explores the lingering effects of the Cold War 20 years after the Berlin Wall came down. The project maps the 4,000 mile long “Iron Curtain” that divided the Soviet Union from the West, profiling 17 towns located along it. The website’s main interface is an interactive map, with clickable hotspots denoting the featured cities. Each location includes footage of the town, historical photographs, and interviews with local residents. Supplementary information about the Iron Curtain and audio from historical figures puts the stories of the towns in a broader historical context.
