Hearing about a culture is one thing, but the ability to then walk around in that culture, to face enemies and traverse environments informed by that culture’s struggles really helps the information stick.

Justin McElroy, from Polygon

Designed as a puzzle platformer, Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) is developed in collaboration with the Iñupiat, an Alaska Native people. Nearly 40 Alaska Native elders, storytellers and community members contributed to the game. Players play through the game as a young Iñupiat girl and an arctic fox, and get exposed to the stories shared by elders and other members of the Alaska Native community. Players can unlock 24 mini-documentaries in the game, whose topics cover the values and culture of the community.
