“We decided to create a game about war, not a war game.”

Paul Tumelaire, Art & Creative Director of Valiant Hearts

Valiant Hearts: The Great War is a puzzle adventure game inspired by letters from the First World War and other historical materials. The game is a fictitious story about four characters drawn together by the war, based on real historical events and sites such as famous battles on the Western Front like the Battle of the Marne or the Battle of the Somme.

The production team has collected World War I memorabilia, including letters, medals and other objects, which served as an important source of inspiration.

Valiant Hearts brings documentary research and perspective into video games and has an intricate relationship with history. It can be seen as both a documentary game and an educational interactive comic book adventure.
